This made me think of the time I meet a Muslim Brother from Maywood, IL.
This Brother was selling a hair conditioner that he say his family invented, I guess would be the right word or developed.
I was impressed. I mean it’s not everyday you meet a small business man or family going out there and making it happen. We could use more of that but let’s keep to the topic.
While browsing online I was able to find a site that gives you actual recipes for making conditioners, rinses,spritzes, shampoos and hair treatments. This site has a lot of recipes and interesting articles about African American Hair in general.
I just thought about something while writing this article. My sister-in-law,to whom is a hair stylist and salon owner for more than 16 years, mentioned something to me over the Thanksgiving holiday. Believe it or not African American Hair is different than others hair, (other’s meaning white people’s and any other than African). What works for one doesn’t mean it will work for the other.
Beauty shouldn’t be defined by one of the other. They are both Beautiful in there own right but ours is just different.
So when you read about hair care make sure you’re getting information from an African point of view if you’re of African descent.
